4 Quick & Easy St. Patrick’s Day Crafts & Writing Activities for the Primary Classroom
Share This:
As a primary educator, the month of March is a difficult month to get through without at least one or two children trying to convince the class with every once of their being, that they just saw a leprechaun running down the hallway…or hiding in the restroom…or peeking through the window…. Wouldn’t it be nice to continue having that much enthusiasm and positivity throughout our adult years? Kids are the best! Here are 4 quick and easy St. Patrick’s Day crafts and writing activities to do with your students during the exciting month of March!
St. Patrick’s Day Crafts & Writing Activities That Your Students Will Love
Use these 4 crafts and writing activities to reign your students back in a little from all the leprechaun thoughts.
- Lucky Leprechaun Rocks
- Shamrock and Rainbow Craft and Lucky Writing Activity
- Leprechaun Craft and Writing/Poetry Activity
- Rainbow Windcatcher Craft
You can remain confident that, while they’re having so much fun, they’re learning and practicing many necessary academic and social-emotional skills too!
Lucky Leprechaun Rocks
Up first– Lucky Leprechaun Rocks!
Paint river rocks for your students and hide them around the classroom for them to find. You know– as gifts left behind by the leprechaun! Leave a note from the leprechaun somewhere in the room stating something like this:
Dear Boys and Girls,
if you are feeling lucky today,
if you are feeling bright,
you might just find some lucky stones
I have hidden from your sight.

Painting Your Rocks
Use paint pens to decorate the rocks. Spray them with acrylic sealer to make them more durable too if you’d like– but that is completely optional!

These painted stones really are so much better than using those plastic gold coins that kids will end up throwing away or chocolate coins (which some students can’t have because of severe food allergies). Kids think there’s something so special about rocks, and these decorated ones are sure to be treasured!
Don’t be surprised when you spot them stored away in desks, backpacks, or cubbies for the rest of the school year for good luck!
Shamrock and Rainbow Craft and Lucky Writing Activity
Next up is this Shamrock and Rainbow Craft. It comes with a Lucky Writing Activity too!
This St. Patrick’s Day craft is so colorful and fun and the kids love layering the rainbow and building the 3-dimensional shamrock!
The writing prompts will get them thinking outside of the box. There are four different prompts and they all center around luck and wishes.
You can watch the assembly process right here!
Find all the written directions and patterns to make this rainbow and shamrock activity in the product description on TPT.
Leprechaun Craft and Writing/Poetry Activity
You won’t be able to get enough of these ADORABLE leprechaun faces, and when there is a whole classroom display of them….CUTENESS OVERLOAD!
The St. Patrick’s Day craft is really easy. Give each of your students their choice of skin color and hair color, then start practicing poetry skills!
First, brainstorm things that are green together, and then the students write from the perspective of the leprechaun that they just created. What would his favorite green things be?
Kids will love the writing activity because they get to try their hand at poetry by “writing” a poem all about things that are green.

Find easy assembly directions and patterns in the Leprechaun product description. Kids will think this one is so much fun!
Rainbow Windcatcher Craft
Another great craft for March is this Rainbow Windcather craft.
These rainbow windcatchers are so simple to make, and the kids LOVE to watch them spin!!!
These work best if you use cardstock instead of construction paper. After they’re all assembled, hang them from the ceiling all over your classrom!
